I grew up in LA and I used to go see Jawbreaker every chance I got whether they be playing in Hollywood or the outlying suburbs. I watched them play a show at Darby Crash's mansion on 4th of July and myself, along with 3 other fans, saw them almost get booed off the stage at some divebar once. The backyard BBQ with Phleg Camp wasn't bad either and I fell in love with my GF at the time at this show. The memories will always be there. When they finally moved to SF, something was missing. Moving to another City just to see a band is stupid so that's why I did it. Me and three friends recreated our lives up north, and although they broke up and Blake moved to NY and later formed Jets, Jawbreaker is why i'm here in SF to begin with.

3 weeks ago, I broke up with my GF of 10 years. The first band I thought about was Jawbreaker so now i'm playing Bivouac and it's a necessary therapy.... remembering times that once were that still seem so vivid but are so far gone and so far away.

Yep, Jawbreaker wrote sad lyrics and that's what made them great. They were way in to domestic tradgedy and were plain speakers at that so I always thought of them as the Raymond Carver of rock. How often does someone set up a romantic moment in a song with "Hayes broke the scissors, apologized" or "I did the dishes while you read out loud"?

The best thing about their lyrics though was probably that it is so easy to live vicariously through them. After awhile, you feel like you were the one that wrote and lived that shit and Blake only wrote it all down for you and sang out loud.

What's really sad though is that there are only a handful of people who are still interested enough in Jawbreaker to join a Tribe about them.

I think I saw this band close to 100 times back in there day it seemed I could never get enough. They found their way on to every compilation I ever made and I was never so in to memorizing lyrics outside of Bad Religion.
